Betty Refour: Visual Artist

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember but only started to paint in 1995 while recovering from a back injury. I  didn't take a class I just went and bought paint and started to paint.  I started to receive commissions immediately. My work can be found in private collections around the world.  After ten years of painting and selling my work, I took my first painting class in 2005.

I lost my maternal grandmother to Breast Cancer,   my paternal grandmother to Colon Cancer, my  mother to Myeloma and my sister has Autism. I use my art to advocate for these causes as well as other causes that are important to me.

I have an Associates degree in Fashion Design. I started my art career as an Illustrator. Before my injury, it had never even occurred to me that I could paint. I had been an Illustrator for 15 years. Now I rarely ever draw. Instead, my work reflects the abstracts I drew as a child.  I share my Oklahoma City studio with my sister Rose who has autism.
